Ontario - A Community On The Move

Ontario is Southern California’s next major urban center. Its growing resident and business population has propelled the City’s leadership to strategically plan ahead to ensure that Ontario maintains a sustainable growth pattern, including the necessary infrastructure and amenities, as well as a good jobs/housing balance.

Population-serving office firms, service centers, corporate headquarters, professional groups and technology firms are increasing their inquiries about the region and decisions to move into it. Currently, Ontario has almost four million square feet of available or being developed office space. In addition, based on a recent econometric demand study, the City expects to realize 15-25 million square feet in the next 20 years to accommodate the expected business and population growth.

Companies taking new space in Ontario have access to the well-educated technicians, professionals and executives that have migrated to the City for its lower cost, upscale residential neighborhoods. Firms needing interns, research and college graduates find that Ontario is 30 minutes from several of America’s finest engineering, science and liberal arts colleges. From 1991 to 2005, Ontario’s employment more than doubled, going from 41,501 to 103.394, an increase of 149%. In 2005, one of the largest increases in employment was in finance, real estate and insurance sector. This is due to the increase in office firms that are relocating or expanding their operations to Ontario.

Ontario’s superior location provides companies strategic access to the main corridors of which people and goods move throughout California. The City is located at the nexus of Interstate 10 and Interstate 15, and has access to the 60 freeway. Companies are also served by Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) or Union Pacific Railway, as well as the Santa Ana Regional Interceptor brine line that takes non-toxic wastewater to the ocean.

LA-Ontario International Airport (ONT) is on track to become Southern California’s next major international gateway. With over seven million passengers in 2005, it is expected that the airport will serve over 30 million passengers by 2030, which is half of the size of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
